Since Sue LeBrecht wrote the Macaulay Mountain entry for her book in 1998, many exciting things have changed at "the hill" ...

A large TRAILHEAD sign was erected in July 2000. It sits under the pavillion, near the pond, beside the parking lot at Macaulay Mountain. The trails that are on the hill have been well mapped and copies of that map are available at the Conservation Authority Office and the Bloomfield Bicyle Company.

Three major new trails have been designed, built and polished.

The bunny-snake trail, an intermediate trail from the parking lot up the east side of the park to the Groovy Tuesday area. It is a great way to climb to the top when the inside-down and the middle earth are muddy. The entry to this trail is back up the pavement driveway a little: at the top of the little hill on the outside (upside) of the blacktop curve. Watch for the rocky bridge sections on this trail ... faeries are known to haunt these areas and catch wheels and drag them into unsuspecting creeks! Going downn this is one of the faster, longer trails on the hill.

Strawberry Fields is a trail we all talked about for years. We'd often ride along "the edge" and looked to the south and said "there's gotta be good trail in there!" ... and so there is! At the furthest south section of "the roof" (closest to where it intersects the Texas Flats") there is a trail to the west (on the outside of the turn cloests to the Texas Flats) which winds it's way for a few kilometers out to cross and re-cross the tank track and pass the look outs. It is twisty-turny and meandering in an insane way - but it creates a nice intermediate to beginner loop on the top of the hill.

Bosco's Boneyard (the Teepee Trail) is the first foray into Macaulay Mountain property across Kingsley Crossroad to the south. To reach this trail you need to cross the large flat fields at the top of the hill - easiest from the intersection of exit stage left and the texas flats. Just left of where that doubletrack drops onto Kingsley Crossroad is a new entry between two cedars in the midst of a forested section. This trail is not officially finished - but the parts that are ready are wonderful and another example of how much Darryl loves the twisty turny stuff. This mess-with-your-sense-of-direction roundy and round weaves through beautiful woods with teepees for rest stops along the way. It's rated intermediate but it's an easy intermediate trail. No big climbs - no big obstacles. Great fun new trail!

Pedro and Rick and Art put in an exit from Bosco's Boneyard in the summer of 2002. It's definitely not the "end finished" ending but at least it gets you back out to the road: so you don't have to go back and forth on the same trail (although that's pretty fun, too!). And in 2003 they installed a fun little bridge at the swampy section. enjoy your ride!
